Project ITW

In the summer of 2010, Smirro GmbH, in cooperation with the ITW Stuttgart and the company Invensor GmbH, launched its first project for solar cooling. For test purposes, the Invensor Company built an adsorption chiller, having a cooling capacity of 10 kW, into the existing building air conditioning.
The chiller is powered by a parabolic trough field, providing an output of approx. 50 kW, which is installed on the roof of the building. To increase the efficiency of the collector field, it is used during the heating season as heating support. The cold produced thereby cools the server room and supports the existing air conditioning system consisting of an ice storage unit in combination with a heat pump system. The goal of the project has been to determine the efficiency of such a combination underscored by the in-depth measuring results.
